Home Trends for 2023

We are already starting to get busy with projects and helping clients all over the map (Literally! NWA, Idaho, Ohio…) plan their 2023 design goals. We love sharing the trends for the year made popular by clients, designers, and style-watchers. We always encourage our clients to find their own unique style, and we hope these trends inspire you to create a space of your very own.

The 1970’s are making a comeback.

That’s right, you heard me! From curvy lines, to thick textures, moody paint colors, and wood tones, we are definitely seeing an homage to styles of the past. Mid-century still seems to be a front-runner in the style category—but not minimalism as much (however it is still popular in Japandi style). Glam is making a comeback! Not “sparkle glam”—think rich in quality, rich in reflection, and rich in depth, rich in details. We love this retro yet modern two-toned Brooks Metal Floor Lamp by Pottery Barn, we recently selected for one of our clients. It feels modern and masculine, exactly the look we wanted. It also comes in brushed steel.

It’s all about the wood.

The last several years have been dominated by painted furniture, but wood tones are popping up everywhere from accent walls to coffee tables and dressers to chairs. If you like painted wood don’t worry—it is still popular in a different way— making an appearance in many Mediterranean inspired looks. If you would like to try to bring some rich wood tones into your home— start small; maybe a planter or other accessories, or some end tables. No shades are excluded it seems, but medium to dark wood tones are a fan favorite. Are you a fan of the wood look?

Mediterranean and other European influences are popular.

Little pockets of bright colors, paying attention to details, and artistic influences seem to be sparked by a love for all things of the Mediterranean. The culture is not shy of pungent colors, hearty foods, and natural decor. Its influences are even flowing into social get togethers, as people are gathering more than ever and hosting a variety of food dishes to spark an exicting pallate. We think 2023 will definitely be a year for entertaining—so splurge and get those special little things that mean a lot like beautiful gold napkin rings, hand painted centerpieces, and earthy serving platters.

Texture, texture….and texture.

Thick and chunky textures are a hot commodity, all around. We are absolutely smitten with boucle chairs! Boucle is a woven fabric that features a looped or knotted texture of yarn and it can be found in cozy pillows, chairs, loveseats, and throws. Check out this beautiful white boucle chair below that would make a great living room accent piece. Not a fan of boucle, what about velvet? It is still just as popular as ever and easy to find in pillows , drapes, and even furniture.

Velvet Accent Chair

We are in love with this velvet accent chair we styled in our lake home renovation project! This client wanted a mix of earthy, modern, and transitional, and we love how it turned out.

Paint is warm, vibrant, and moody.

Sherwin Willams color of the year for 2023 is Redend Point. It is a sultry, muted red tone, and it is all the rage this year. Blushing clay colors are making people feel alive and we are here for it! Some other popular colors are Bravado Red, Unfussy Beige, and Taiga. While variations of these soulful colors are expected, one thing we know for sure, grays and cooler tones on taking a back seat to warm reds, browns, and beiges.

Styled art is a “graphic” love story.

The art story is a love story, a love story of graphic art—that is. Pop icon artist Andy Warhol has been showcased for years in homes, businesses, and on merchandise with brightly colored, in-your-face-art. This vibrant style of art is all the rage for 2023. It doesn’t have to be harsh black and white contrast, though. We love this graphic art we found at Artfully Walls for Anthropologie. It has beautiful blue tones and brings a pop of color. This piece is called “At the sea” by T.S. Harris. While abstracts are is still a favorite, gallery walls might start seeing lots of artsy portraits.

Wow, what a rush. We hope that you are inspired by some of these new trends and start looking at your favorite shopping spots to see if you can spot some of these popular trends. Whatever your style is, we support you and are passionate about creating beauty every day for you, our clients. Now, go style your home! (With our help of course.)
